Sweetness, Interrupted
The outfit started at Marshall’s and somehow ended at Bonpoint.
I love sweet clothes.
Collars, pointelle, tiny florals, tiny bows, little matching sets, embroidery, bonnets, all of it.
But I think what I actually love most is when something breaks up the sweetness a little.
An oversized band tee.
Sneakers instead of Mary Janes.
Heart swim goggles with pearls.
A beautiful dress worn unfussily.
Boots with something overtly sweet.
That’s usually what I am drawn to.
The giant My Melody backpack somehow compliments almost everything she owns.
I still love beautiful children’s clothes obviously.
But the outfits I keep responding to most are usually the ones that actually feel lived in. I’ve realized I’m less interested in perfectly styled children lately. Especially since moving to Santa Barbara.
The things they really wear.
The things they pull back out themselves.
The pieces that somehow survive playgrounds, snacks, art at lunch, school pickup, and getting dressed in a rush.
Vintage hand me downs from Olympia, now Delphine’s.
I love when something very girly and preppy gets grounded by oversized denim overalls.
I think that’s also why I mix things so much.
Bonpoint with Marshall’s.
Tiny special brands mixed with random finds.
Something very feminine mixed with something sporty, oversized or hand me downs.
I honestly don’t care where something came from. I appreciate the hunt.
Honestly some of the best things lately have been from Marshall’s.
Some of my favorite finds lately have actually been completely random Marshalls pieces.
Sometimes the less precious the more you end up wearing it.
(Outfit courtesy of Marshall’s.)
Olympia would happily dress like she’s headed to tennis practice. every single day if I let her.
There’s almost always one completely unnecessary accessory involved.
Preferably oversized.
Sometimes the thing that saves an outfit tends to be something unexpected.
The worn in shoes.
Oversized sunglasses.
A basic piece mixed with something delicate.
I think children look best when they still look like themselves inside the clothes.
A giant concert tee on a little girl will probably always crush me.
Especially when it’s her Dada’s band.
A tiny cardigan somehow makes everything feel complete.
There was never a chance I wasn’t buying this cherry dress.
Somehow the tiniest trim details become the whole reason I love something.
Tiny rosettes continue to ruin me.
On pointelle sets, tiny tees, dresses, socks, tanks - honestly anything.
All from Get Spilled Milk.
I would wear every single one of these looks.
The clothes I end up loving most are usually the ones that stop looking new almost immediately.
Worn constantly.
Slightly faded.
Thrown on with something simple.
The ones we attach to actual memories.
Sweet clothes.
Strong opinions.
Playground shoes.
That’s usually the formula.
